What is Pre GFL 2025?

This is a 3-day adventure in September 2024, including what we in the OC call the Treasures of Norway tour.

We’ll kick off our journey along the Atlantic Ocean in Bergen, exploring the captivating Fjord area, featuring a Fjordcruise through Nærøyfjord (UNESCO World Heritage site), with opportunities to visit the Stegastein viewpoint and experience the awe-inspiring Flåm Railway, renowned as one of the world’s most breathtaking train journeys.

This tour is tailor-made for those seeking a quick but comprehensive glimpse of Norway’s stunning landscapes, including panoramic vistas, majestic mountains, tranquil fjords, cascading waterfalls, and the highlights of Bergen.

And, of course, we’ll have time for some festive moments!

Treasures of Norway Tour

You’re invited to join us from Sunday September 22nd, to Tuesday September 24th, 2024.

Both nights of our adventure will be spent at the Park Hotel Vossevangen, located in Voss, just one hour by train to the east of Bergen. Accommodation include half-board, and you can choose to add the “Treasures of Norway tour” and other activities based on your preferences.

Timeline

 Day 1 – Arrival in Bergen & train to Voss

Bergen, often hailed as the “Gateway to the Fjords,” is a true Norwegian gem that promises an unforgettable adventure for first-time visitors to Norway. Nestled along the serene coast, Bergen welcomes you with its picturesque landscapes, charming cobbled streets, and a rich maritime heritage.

This vibrant city offers a blend of natural wonders and cultural delights, from the stunning fjords to the colorful Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore its historic architecture, relish fresh seafood at the famous Fish Market, or embark on the wonderful Fløibanen.

Bergen’s friendly locals, cultural festivals, and the ever-changing weather will leave you enchanted and eager to experience the heart of Norway. Lucky for you, we have arranged multiple activities for you to take part in during PRE GFL 2025.

Bergen Airport Flesland is well connected to the european continent and offers direct flights to/from hubs such as;

A member of OC GFL2025 will be there from 09:30 to welcome you, assist with your luggage, and offer complimentary coffee, soft drinks, and sandwiches. You’ll also receive a map and the opportunity to explore Bergen’s highlights, including Bryggen, the Fish Market, The Fløibanen funicular, and more at your own pace, before meeting the rest of the group at the 16:15 train to Voss (read more below).

For transportation from Bergen Airport Flesland to the city center we recommend taking the Bergen Light Railway (Bybanen) to the end station, “Byparken“.

Bybanen costs 44 NOK, runs every 5 minutes, and takes approximately 45 minutes. You may purchase tickets directly from the ticket machine on the platform (both Mastercard and Visa accepted).

By train to from Oslo to Bergen

This is a great alternative if you want to explore more of Norway during your stay. The ‘Bergensbanen‘ rail route offers breathtaking views while taking you from our capital to the beautiful city of Bergen.

Another practical aspect of taking the train is that it arrives in the city centre. We will provide you with a a map so that you can explore Bergen’s highlights, including Bryggen, the Fish Market, The Fløibanen funicular, and more at your own pace.

Train to Voss

At 16:15, we will meet at Bergen Jernbanestasjon (Railway Station).

The meeting point will be in the hall in front of the tracks. Everyone should purchase a train ticket to Voss, and we will catch the train departing from Bergen at 16:29, arriving in Voss at 17:49.

There is a ticket machine available on the platform, and both Mastercard and Visa are accepted.

Arrival in Voss

Park Hotel Vossevangen is conveniently located and just a 5-minute walk from Voss Train Station. Upon your arrival, you’ll find your luggage at the reception, where you can also complete the check-in process.

At 19:00, we will gather in the hotel’s bar for a pre-dinner drink. Dinner is scheduled for 19:30.

For those of you who are interested, we have an entertaining quiz or music quiz planned after dinner. It’s a great opportunity to test your knowledge and enjoy a fun-filled evening.

 Day 2 – The Treasures of Norway tour (or exploration on your own)

Embark on an exhilarating journey through Norway’s treasures, a day filled with breathtaking sights and memorable experiences. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this adventure!

08:00 – 09:30: Breakfast

09:44 – Train Departs Voss station, Bergen Line

Enjoy the scenic train journey to Myrdal.

10:29 Arrival at Myrdal station
Change trains to the Flåm Railway.

10:41: The Flåm Railway

  • Experience one of the world’s most spectacular railway journeys.
  • We start the journey from mountain station Myrdal(867m amsl) and descend in short distance to Flåm station at sea level. We sing all togheter!!! “Der Zug, der Zug, der Zug hat keine………..
  • Gaze at the wild and majestic fjord and mountain landscapes.
  • Witness rivers carving through deep ravines, waterfalls cascading down steep mountainsides, snow-capped peaks, and mountain farms.
  • 11:39 – Arrival at Flåm station. Light Meal.
  • Enjoy a quick meal.
  • Opportunity to explore Flåm railway museum for free.

Optional Stegastein Viewpoint Tour (Additional 350 NOK)

15:00 – Fjord Cruise Nærøyfjord, Flåm – Gudvangen

  • Experience a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Sail through the narrowest fjord in the world, the Nærøyfjord, surrounded by towering mountains.
  • Admire mountain farms clinging to steep mountainsides.

17:25 – Bus Departs Gudvangen
En route, we’ll pass the majestic Tvindefossen waterfall and make a stop at the picturesque Stalheim before reaching Voss at 18:55.

20:00 – Dinner at the Hotel

  • Savor a great dinner with local specialities.

 Day 3 – Departure day. More exploration or Kiss & Goodbye

As your incredible journey draws to a close, we want to ensure a smooth transition back home. Depending on your flight schedule, here’s how you can make your way from Voss to Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO).

Train from Voss to Bergen (Approx. 1 hr 20 min):

  • Enjoy the scenic train journey from Voss to Bergen.
  • Multiple options available, starting from 257 NOK.
  • Operated by Vy, with a change to the Bergen Light Railway.

Bergen Light Railway (Bybanen) (Approx. 45 min):

  • Hop on the convenient Bergen Light Railway, departing every 5 minutes.
  • Affordable fare of 44 NOK.

08:00 Bus departs Voss outside the hotel.

The extended tour includes visits to several notable landmarks along the way to BGO, including Skjervsfossen waterfall, the scenic route of Hardangerfjord, and Steinsdalsfossen waterfall.

The price of the extended tour is 500 NOK, including transport to BGO.

Skjervsfossen Waterfall

  • Skjervsfossen is a renowned waterfall known for its unique visitor experience. A concrete walkway allows close-up views, letting you capture stunning photos and immerse yourself in this natural wonder.

Hardangerfjord

  • The journey continues along the stunning Scenic Route of Hardangerfjord, famous for its deep blue waters, green hills, orchards, charming villages, and majestic viewpoints, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall

  • Steinsdalsfossen, another remarkable waterfall on ourjourney, stands out as you can walk behind it via a well-maintained pathway, offering a unique perspective and a thrilling encounter with nature’s force.

After these scenic stops, we’ll proceed to Bergen Airport (BGO) where we will arrive at around 12:00.

Important Information!

CAPACITY
There is a maximum capacity of 100 persons for Pre-GFL.

The basic fee will be approximately 2,795 NOK, and includes:
Accomodation
Two nights at Park Hotel Vossevangen in a shared double room. A single room is available for an additional 300 NOK per night.
Meals
Two breakfasts, two light lunches (sandwiches & coffee), and two dinners. Plus, a glass of sparkling wine for the welcome party.

The Treasures of Norway tour is an additional 1545 NOK
(Includes Bergen Line Voss-Myrdal, Flåm Railway Myrdal-Flåm, Fjord Cruise Nærøyfjorden Flåm-Gudvangen, Bus Gudvangen-Voss, Coffee, Soft Drinks & Lunch Sandwiches)

Stegastein tour is an additional 350 NOK
(includes minibus along a narrow and twisty road to/from the viewpoint)

The Extended tour to BGO is an additional 500 NOK
(Includes Bus Voss-BGO via several amazing viewpoints.)

Terms & Conditions

-If you wish to cancel your registration, the following cancellation charges apply per person:

After June 10th: No refund.

-All activities are at your own risk.

Photos and videos will be taken during the trip. Please let us know before the journey if you do not consent to the recording of statements, photographs, and/or audio or video, and that this material may be used by GFL 2025 Association and fellow tour guests on internal and external channels/platforms.

Registration & Payment

Registration begins on April 28, 2024. Stay tuned for the registration link and more information.

The final payment in NOK is due by June 10th, 2024.

Packing List

-Good shoes, preferably lightweight waterproof hiking shoes.

-Gloves, a beanie, and sunglasses.

-While most of the trip will be indoors, wind and waterproof clothing is essential due to the quickly changing mountain weather.
